- Regions of Hungary
There are seven statistical regions of
Hungary created in 1999 by the Law 1999/XCII amending Law 1996/XXI. The regional division is expected to replace the present 20 administrative division into 19 counties and the capital city. Regions are groupings of these units.*"Northern Hungary" includes the counties
Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén , Heves and Nógrád.
*"Northern Great Plain" includes the countiesHajdú-Bihar ,Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok andSzabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg .
*"Southern Great Plain" includes the countiesBács-Kiskun , Békés and Csongrád.
*"Central Hungary" includes the county of Pest and the capitalBudapest .
*"Central Transdanubia" includes the countiesKomárom-Esztergom ,Fejér and Veszprém.
*"Western Transdanubia" includes the countiesGyőr-Moson-Sopron ,Vas andZala .
*"Southern Transdanubia" includes the countiesBaranya ,Somogy and Tolna.Euroregions

* Ister-Granum Euroregion:Komárom-Esztergom ,Nógrád (Counties sometimes only roughly correspond to euroregions, so overlap is possible.)
