Gastão Rosenfeld (b.
Budapest ,July 26 1912 ; d.São Paulo ,July 15 1990 ), was aBrazil ianphysician and biomedical scientist, one of the co-discoverers ofbradykinin , together withMaurício Rocha e Silva andWilson Teixeira Beraldo , in 1949.Rosenfeld was a specialist in the study of
biochemistry of the action ofsnake venoms in animals and humans, particularly those of theBothrops family (lancehead or jararaca). Among other things, he investigated in theInstituto Butantan , in São Paulo, where he worked as an experimental researcher, the action of snake venoms onfibrinolysis andblood coagulation .Among his contributions to biomedical sciences are the development of a rapidstaining forblood smears combiningMay-Grunwald andGiemsa techniques in 1947 (Rosenfeld staining), introduced a new treatment for chronicleukemia using personal control of maintenance dosis (1955) and describedhementerin , ananticoagulant isolated of a Brazilian specie ofleech ("Haementeria depressa") jointly with Eva Maria Antonia Kelen in 1975.
