Barred surfperch ("Amphistichus argenteus") exist from northern California to southern Baja California. These, as surfperch, give live birth to their young.

Fishery

Barred surfperch are an important sport fishery for most surf fishermen in California. Anglers use sandcrabs, shrimp, squid, cut fish, Gulp! sandworm, and small hard baits to catch these fish.
