SBS Transit Service 51

SBS Transit Bus Service 51 is a trunk service that ply between Hougang Central Bus Interchange and Jurong East Bus Interchange. The service have gone under major re-routes over the last 8 years. Service 51 has one of the longest routes in Singapore, having travelling up to 46km worth of distance.

History

*1985: Service 51 was introduced; the original route was much shorter than present day itself. Originally, the road extends from Jurong Bus Terminal to Hougang South.
*1995: The route was changed to Jurong East Bus Interchange. The route that leads into Jurong Terminal was terminated.
*2001: In the T-Junction between West Coast Road to Jurong Town Hall Road was changed to Pandan Gardens Road.
*2003: Hougang South Bus Interchange was terminated; routes were extended to Hougang Central Bus Interchange.
*2004: Major changes to Service 51 route, because Service 143, also operated from Jurong East Bus Interchange, had nearly half of the route which is same with 51's. Instead of going through Telok Blangah Road, Keppel Road into Kampung Bahru Road and to Chinatown, It was changed to Alexandra Road, which then leads to Queensway, Jalan Bukit Merah before entering Chinatown.
