Bernard "Bernie" NiCastro (b. 1934) is a
Miami mobster and alleged "soldier" in the New Jersey basedDeCavalcante crime family .A resident in
West Palm Beach, Florida , NiCastro was involved in largeillegal gambling andloansharking activities since the 1970s, which is when he is believed to have been 'made' in theNew Jersey basedDeCavalcante crime family . Set to operate with reputed captain Philip "Phil" Abramo in the New York faction of the DeCavalcante family in the late 1980s, NiCastro and Abramo together conspired to murder Joseph Garofano in 1989, as well as NiCastro reportedly committed the murder himself, in aid of the large laborracketeering operations in Staten Island that Abramo controlled. Miami, Florida to take care of the family's illict activities, which at the time were mostlyloansharking ,illegal gambling andextortion operations. According to US law enforcement, NiCastro operated in Miami and Palm Beach for most of the 1990s, as he bought a residence inWest Palm Beach, Florida around that time.But on October 19, 2000, NiCastro was arrested and extradited to the state of New Jersey, where more than 50 of his associates from the
DeCavalcante crime family were put on trial for various criminal activities, including laborracketeering , extortion, loansharking, illegal gambling, murder and conspiracy to commitmurder charges.
