Bernard NiCastro

Bernard "Bernie" NiCastro (b. 1934) is a Miami mobster and alleged "soldier" in the New Jersey based DeCavalcante crime family.

A resident in West Palm Beach, Florida, NiCastro was involved in large illegal gambling and loansharking activities since the 1970s, which is when he is believed to have been 'made' in the New Jersey based DeCavalcante crime family. Set to operate with reputed captain Philip "Phil" Abramo in the New York faction of the DeCavalcante family in the late 1980s, NiCastro and Abramo together conspired to murder Joseph Garofano in 1989, as well as NiCastro reportedly committed the murder himself, in aid of the large labor racketeering operations in Staten Island that Abramo controlled. However, during the 1990s, NiCastro was sent down to Miami, Florida to take care of the family's illict activities, which at the time were mostly loansharking, illegal gambling and extortion operations. According to US law enforcement, NiCastro operated in Miami and Palm Beach for most of the 1990s, as he bought a residence in West Palm Beach, Florida around that time.

But on October 19, 2000, NiCastro was arrested and extradited to the state of New Jersey, where more than 50 of his associates from the DeCavalcante crime family were put on trial for various criminal activities, including labor racketeering, extortion, loansharking, illegal gambling, murder and conspiracy to commit murder charges. Nicastro, then in his mid 60s, was convicted of committing the murder of Joseph Garafano, as well as other predicates under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, and was sentenced to 20-25 years in prison [http://www.ipsn.org/indictments/loren-maltese_indictment/decavalcante_indictment2.htm]

As of March, 2008, Bernard NiCastro is incarcerated at the Federal Correctional Institution, Miami. His projected release date is May 13, 2015.
