- Praise
In religion, praise is an impassioned
exaltation ofGod (ie. aSupreme Being , or Creation), typically as an expression ofgratitude for one'slife orbeing . In other cases, praise may be tied to more situational aspects such ashealth andprosperity .In its common usage praise is the act of making positive statements about a person, object or idea, either in public or privately. Praise is often contrasted with
criticism , where the latter is held to mean exclusively "negative" statements made about something, although this is not technically correct. Most people are responsive to praise and will increase inself-esteem or confidence if a suitable amount of praise is received -- in fact some psychological theories hold that a person's life is comprised largely of attempts to win praise for their actions. Other people are less affected by or even averse to praise, for example people withautism [cite journal |journal= J Child Psychol Psychiatry |year=1993 |volume=34 |issue=3 |pages=353–62 |title= Pride and mastery in children with autism |author= Kasari C, Sigman MD, Baumgartner P, Stipek DJ |doi=10.1111/j.1469-7610.1993.tb00997.x |pmid=8463373] orschizoid personality disorder .Fact|date=August 2007using praise with children: reward the attainment of speicifed goals not just participation of the child. Do NOT praise uninvolved students for not disrupting the class. Ensure praise being given to the child is deserved. Prasie progress is in relation to individuals past progress NOT compared with others.
Praise is an integral part of many
religion s, for exampleChristianity andIslam , which hold thatGod is a supreme being who is worthy of praise. TheBiblical book ofPsalms is a collection ofhymn s andpoem s, many of which praiseYahweh . In Christianity, the word takes on a new meaning, and is understood as a command to either describe God or give a testimony of what God has done.References
