"The Elected Member" is a Booker Prize-winning novel by Welsh author Bernice Rubens.

Plot

The novel's main character is Norman Zweck, who is addicted to amphetamines and is convinced that he sees silverfish wherever he goes.

Awards

"The Elected Member" won the 1970 Man Booker Prize for fiction; this marked the first time it had been awarded to a woman (although only the second award overall).
