Francis "Frank" McCool (October 27, 1918 – May 20, 1973) was a
Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender who played for theToronto Maple Leafs in theNational Hockey League . He was born inCalgary, Alberta .McCool was recipient of the
Calder Trophy in 1945. He won oneStanley Cup in his career. He retired after just two years because of severeulcer s. Prior to playing pro, McCool played two seasons forGonzaga University . In 1945, McCool became the first goaltender in NHL history to record an assist of a goal.He suffered from ulcers during his career, and it was confirmed that ulcer played a part in his death on May 20, 1973.
In the 1945 Stanley Cup playoffs, McCool had three consecutive shutouts to start the Finals series against the
Detroit Red Wings , setting a playoff record.External links
