Shivaji .Shiv-shahir 'Babasaheb' Purandare is a gifted orator and researcher. He was instrumental in putting together the Marathi mega-play 'Janata Raja'. He has authored several books on Shivaji's life.
Madhuri Purandare, his daughter, is a writer, painter and singer. She has written a book on Pablo Picasso.
Babasaheb Purandare has inspired many people from his golden words and writings in his books. He dedicated his life in research of History of Shivaji. Many writers have taken his guidance while writing their books on history or forts.
Babasaheb Purandare is also very close to a number of royal families. i.e., Chhattrapati Bhosale's of Satara and Kolhapur; Sarsenapati Dabhade's, Ghorpade's, Mohite's, Jadhavrao's; Nimbalkar's of Phaltan and Nipani; Peshwa's of Pune; Himmatbahadur Chavan etc....
He is a great Historian and Author of many books viz, Raja Shivachattrapati, Maharaj, Purandaryanchi Daulat, Purandayancha Sarkarwada, Purandaryanchi Naubat, Purandaryanchya Burujavarun, Shilanganacha Sona and many more..
He is also famous for his fabulous show, Jaanta Raja on Chhatrapati Shivaji for his screenplay, dialogues and scripts. The play depicts the entire life of Shivaji Raje, such as his Birth, various victories and escape from Agra etc. This play at a given point has more than 170-200 actors on the stage. Elephants, Camels and Horses are also included in the play. This is one Electrifying play, which no-one should miss. Generally the play starts around Diwali time around Pune/Mumbai area.
