HMCS Somers Isles

HMCS Somers Isles

HMCS Somers Isles was a temporary training facility for the Royal Canadian Navy on Bermuda from 1944 to 1945.

The base was located at Convict Bay, St. George's Parish and formerly of the Royal Navy.

This base was abandoned and Canada's military presence would re-located to Somerset Island, Bermuda on the West End of the island.

Prior to this, the RCN worked with the RN in establishing an anit-submarine training program at Casemates Barracks starting in 1939.

The base also saw the conversion of 50 ex-USN destroyers converted from British and Canadian naval service during World War II.
