Access Accounting Ltd is a UK-based, independently owned computer software house with 140 employees. It develops and supports a range of integrated solutions for the UK and Irish mid-market which are sold through its network of Access Specialist Centres.

Initially founded in 1991, the company grew organically until 2004 when it acquired ERP solutions provider, Access Supply Chain (formerly Pumasoft). This was followed by the acquisition of its London-based reseller, Asyst solutions in the same year and Access Accounting Ireland (2005). Together, these companies form the Access Technology Group.

Access Accounting invests 10% of revenue into Research and Development each year and Access products are used within the company in order to constantly test their effectiveness in real world situations.

Access is a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner and its solutions are accredited by HMRC and the ICAEW (Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales).

History

1991-1995: Early Development

Access Accounting’s first product was marketed as an entry-level accounting package but it was by utilising the potential of the Windows platform that brought the company its first real success. Access Horizons, widely recognised as the first true Windows accounting system, was later developed to provide full multi-currency trading options.

1996 - Present

In 1996, Access Accounting developed what would become its flagship software package, Access Dimensions, which was widely recognised as the first affordable Client/Server architecture in mid-market accounting systems. In 1998, the company developed its Transaction Broker, a cost-effective middleware application to facilitate integration at mid-market level. This was followed by the release of Access Dimensions Lite, built around Microsoft's free version of SQL Server, in 2001.

Using Smart Tag and COM add-in technology, the company was able to release an accounting package with in-built business intelligence through integration with Microsoft Office (2002) and Outlook Today (2005). Dimensions Portal, a suite of web-enabled modules, was released in 2007 to extend the company’s reach into project-related industries and to support remote working. Most recently, the company released a practical solution for measuring carbon emissions, and currently the only leading business software vendor to provide this functionality as standard.
