Aktuellt

Aktuellt

"Aktuellt" ("Current Events") is a twice-daily news programme produced by Sveriges Television (SVT) and broadcast on its second channel, SVT2 in Sweden.

"Aktuellt"'s first edition, which goes out at 18.00, is fifteen minutes long and is the first main television news bulletin of the evening. On weekdays it includes an economic news section, A-ekonomi. The second edition, at 21.00, lasts 30 minutes on weekdays and 15 minutes at weekends. This bulletin contains longer reports and other features, such as interviews. A junior version of the programme, called "Lilla Aktuellt" and aimed at children – in which current events are discussed in an educational and simplified manner – is broadcast twice a week .

First broadcast on 2 September 1958, "Aktuellt" was Sweden's first television news programme. With the start of TV 2 (forerunner of SVT2) in 1969, the name "Aktuellt" disappeared, but was revived in 1972, when the twice-daily pattern of bulletins at 18.00 and 21.00 began – at the time, on TV 1. In 1997 the early edition was moved to SVT2, and from 15 January 2001 the 21.00 edition followed suit.

In 2000 editorial responsibility for "Aktuellt", for "Rapport" (SVT1's news programme), and for the content of SVT's news channel, SVT24, was unified; nevertheless, the name "Aktuellt" continues to be used to designate SVT2's news programmes.

Aktuellt went widescreen and was given a new look studio, music and graphics November 19th 2007.
