Ajmer Singh Chopra was born on 12th of December,
1953 in a Ror family of the Rukanpur village. Rukanpur is a small place close to Uchana inKarnal district ofHaryana . He joined Haryana Police after his education and started practicing Volleyball. He was 6'5" tall and people generally thought that he could be a good player. Just when he started getting serious about Volleyball, the local Basketball coach called him over one day. Thus started his tryst with destiny as a result of a chance happening.porting career

Basketball player and finally, he leftVolleyball and started devoting all his time to his new passion. Ajmer Singh made a very intelligent move to Kota, which had a great tradition inBasketball . He played for theRajasthan team to begin and later made a shift to theIndian Railways team. The high point of his career was the Moscow Olympics and he was awarded the country's highest sporting honor, theArjuna Award in1982 . He has been contributing to the game as a coach after his retirement from regular competition in 1990.
