Ajmer Singh is a Basketball player from India. He represented the country in the Asian Basketball Championships and in the Moscow Olympics in 1980, where he was declared the "10th best pivot player" of the world. Being from the Ror community of Haryana, Ajmer was naturally a rough and tough player and his sole aim was to score as many baskets as possible. Background

Ajmer Singh Chopra was born on 12th of December, 1953 in a Ror family of the Rukanpur village. Rukanpur is a small place close to Uchana in Karnal district of Haryana. He joined Haryana Police after his education and started practicing Volleyball. He was 6'5" tall and people generally thought that he could be a good player. Just when he started getting serious about Volleyball, the local Basketball coach called him over one day. Thus started his tryst with destiny as a result of a chance happening.

He proved to be a gifted Basketball player and finally, he left Volleyball and started devoting all his time to his new passion. Ajmer Singh made a very intelligent move to Kota, which had a great tradition in Basketball. He played for the Rajasthan team to begin and later made a shift to the Indian Railways team. The high point of his career was the Moscow Olympics and he was awarded the country's highest sporting honor, the Arjuna Award in 1982. He has been contributing to the game as a coach after his retirement from regular competition in 1990. He aims to come back to his native state of Haryana and start a Basketball Academy after his retirement from Indian Railways.
