John Roach (shipbuilder)

John Roach was born on 25 December 1813 in Mitchelstown, County Cork. When he was 15 years old, alone and penniless, he emigrated to New York. He became America's most noted shipbuilder and was renowened for marine engines. He died on 10 January 1887, successful and wealthy.
