Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bandar Tun Hussein Onn (acronym: SMKBTHO), sometimes referred as SMK Bandar Tun Hussein Onn 2 (although there were never another school of the same name before it), is a secondary school in the state of Selangor, Malaysia. It is the only available secondary school in Bandar Tun Hussein Onn suburb.

The school, by city, is located in South Cheras, by district in Hulu Langat and under the subdistrict of Balakong.

History

SMK Bandar Tun Hussein Onn was fully established in December 2003 and began its first session on January 1, 2004. It's first principal was Datin Azmah Abd Aziz, who retired on December 2007. The school consists of four 3-storey building blocks. The school has double sessions; the morning sessions starts from 7.30 am and ends at 1.05 pm. The afternoon session, which started in 2006, begins at 1.05 pm till 6.30 pm.

Majority of its students came from SK Bandar Tun Hussein Onn, SK Bandar Tun Hussein Onn 2, SK Cheras Jaya 1 and SK Batu Sembilan.

SMKBTHO consists of;

* 4 building blocks, 7 stairs, an assembly area, an "astaka", a canteen, a field, 6 toilets, 2 changing rooms
* an administration office, a staff room, a meeting room, a "surau" (translate: "musolla"), 2 event halls, a bookshop
* 34 classrooms, 4 cabin-type classrooms, 6 science laboratory (1 for Biology, 1 for Chemistry, 1 for Physics, 3 for Science), 5 Living Skills Workshops (carpentry, engines, pipeworks, sewing and cooking)
* Zaaba library (school library), a "Bilik Bahasa" (transliterate: "Language Room"), an Art Studio, a Computer Laboratory, a Mathematics Room, "Bilik Warisan" (transliterate: "Heritage Room", specific for History and Geography studies)
* a Discipline Room, a Counselling Room, a Prefects Operations Room, Ibnu Sina room (sick bay)

Academics

SMKBTHO reached the top 10 school ranking of Hulu Langat within four years of establishment, making it the fastest rising school in Hulu Langat. As after PMR 2007, SMKBTHO ranked 7th.

The school's best accomplishment in public examinations are of PMR 2007, where 64 students achieved straight A's (9A's and 8A's for Muslim students, 7A's for non-Muslim students) and 86% exam-takers passed.

It's current best record holder in SPM is Mohd Imran Izamuddin of SPM 2006, who attained the result of 11A1 1A2 1B3.

SMKBTHO also has a reputation of high percentage of A's in Pendidikan Seni Visual (translate: "Visual Art Education") subject, due to the presence of Hulu Langat district's Assessment Officer of Pendidikan Seni Visual, Pn Halijah Hamzah.

Disciplinary Board

The school disciplinary execution are mainly run by prefects and discipline teachers. The official uniform for male prefects are white long sleeve shirt, white trouser and a maroon blazer. The official uniform for female prefects are white long sleeve blouse, maroon long skirt and a maroon blazer; however they are allowed to wear white "baju kurung" with a maroon "kain kurung" on inofficial occasions.

The prefects headcount are approximately 120+ per year,which concludes roughly 5% of the school population. The prefects are chosen through interviews by the Prefects Council and approved by the Acting Advisor, rather than the meritocracy method.

A few teachers (discipline teachers) has been given mandate to carry a rattan cane, and are allowed to cane student, provided following the procedures.

Mohd Hafiz Syafiq Mohd Sapian become the first Head Prefect, succeded by Inthiran a/l Mariappan in September 2006 and from August 2007 until present was lead by Malcolm Gerard a/l Steven as Head Boy and Izreen Fara bt Azli as Head Girl.

Co-Curricular Activities

SMKBTHO's co-curriculum unit is led by Senior Assistant of Co-curricular Activities, En Ridzuan Abdullah. The school's co-curricular unit's motto is "Siap Siaga" (transliterate: "Always Ready").

The school current line of co-curricular units are:

* Uniform: Kadet Remaja Sekolah, Kadet Polis, Persatuan Bulan Sabit Merah (Red Crescent Society), Puteri Islam, Pengakap (Scouts), Pandu Puteri (Girl Guides)

Achievements

* Sports

The schools best sports achievements would be of school's football team and school's volleyball squad. The school's football team often reaches the semifinals and finals in district and state-level tournaments. Occasionally, the school's track athletes and netball team also made outstanding achievements.

The volleyball team, the school's pride and joy, won the most amounts of medals for the school. Notable players include Muhammad Aizat Abd Karim who represented Hulu Langat in the state-level under-15 tournament of 2007, and Faliq Ajir, who represented Selangor in the national levels of under-18 tournaments in 2007.

Another outstanding achievements include 2007 district-level chess tournament, where Yeep Ka Young ranked 8th of entire Hulu Langat in the under-18 male category.

* Uniform Units

The most active unit in SMKBTHO is the Kadet Remaja Sekolah, that displayed outstanding capabilities, particularly in marching. They also organised the most outdoor events of all uniform units in SMKBTHO.The KRS has officially close relation with the Kadet Polis.

In 2007, at the age of 15, Staff Sergeant Siti Sarah Dzulkifli were bestowed "Hulu Langat's Best KRS Marching Commander" during a district-level marching competition.
