- ThruVision T5000
The Thruvision T5000 is a camera that exploits low energy terahertz or T-ray radiation to see objects under clothes from up to 80 feet away. It works on the basis that people emit low level radiation between infrared and microwave rays, which can pass through walls and clouds.cite web| url = http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7287135.stm| title = Camera 'looks' through clothing| date = 2008-03-10| author = | publisher = BBC News] cite web| url = http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/science/article3512019.ece| title = Strip search: camera that sees through clothes from 80ft away| date = 2008-03-09| author = Jonathon Leake| publisher = Times Online]
The technology was originally developed at the
Rutherford Appleton Laboratory and initially designed for use inastronomy .It has attracted interest from police forces, government agencies and airport operators and was reported to have the potential to increase fears that Britain was becoming a
surveillance society . Thruvision claims the camera will not show details of naked bodies but only show "explosives, liquids, narcotics, weapons, plastics and ceramics".cite web| url = http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?id=britain-makes-camera-that| title = Britain makes camera that "sees" under clothes| date = 2008-03-09| author = Luke Baker| publisher = Scientific American] cite web| url = http://blog.wired.com/gadgets/2008/03/british-securit.html| title = British Security Camera Can See Through Clothes| date = 2008-03-10| author = Charlie Sorrel| publisher = Wired]References
