ShopLocal is a marketing and advertising service that builds, hosts and maintains the weekly ads for top U.S. retailers. ShopLocal SmartMedia can take those weekly ads and turn them into interactive, localized banner advertising that can be run anywhere on the Internet. The company also hosts an online price comparison service, ShopLocal.com.

ShopLocal partners include 29 of the 30 top retailers in the circular space, including Target, Lowes, CVS, and Walgreens.

The company originally started as Saleshound.com in 1999 and then later became CrossMedia Services.

In 2004, Gannett Company, Knight Ridder (now owned by The McClatchy Company) and Tribune Company acquired CrossMedia Services from Gabriel Venture Partners in a joint venture. [http://www.gannett.com/news/pressrelease/2004/pr050604.htm]

The company changed its name to ShopLocal LLC in September 2005. [http://www.aboutshoplocal.com/press_release/2005/2005_8.html]

In 2006, adjustments were made to ownership. [http://www.gannett.com/news/pressrelease/2006/pr080106.htm]
