Heritage Christian Academy was founded in 2007 by parents of children that had been enrolled at Heritage Christian School of Northern Colorado. That school folded in the summer of 2007 due to financial difficulties associated with making payments on their building, but a group of business men associated with the school felt lead by God to form a new school based upon the same curriculum and spirit [cite news | first=Taylour | last=Nelson| title=Christian School Swaps Hands| work=Fort Collins Coloradoan | date= 14 July 2007] .
They hired the administration and many of the teachers from the former school during the summer of 2007 and entered into a contract to purchase a warehouse building (previously owned by Ultimate Support Systems [http://www.ultimatesupport.com] of music and bike stand fame). In the 10 weeks starting August 1, 2007, they worked with contractors and also poured in a lot of volunteer labor to retrofit about 40% of the building into a school facility.
HCA started operations in September, 2007, in two churches in Fort Collins, while construction continued. Then, on October 10, 2007, they started classes in a new facility on Zurich Drive. In the second year of operations, the enrollment is above 240 students.
On September 16, 2008, the school hosted the first home volleyball game in its own gymnasium. Previously, home games were held at a local church gym.
