Alma Preinkert (October 22, 1895-February 28, 1958) was the registrar at the University of Maryland before being
murder ed by an intruder at herWashington, D.C. home. A Maryland alumna and a beloved figure in the University community, her murder sent shockwaves through the area. Hundreds of interviews were conducted and a $1500 reward was offered, but no arrest was ever made.A building on the University's College Park campus, the Preinkert Field House, is named after Alma Preinkert and currently contains the National Center for
