Carlos Tomada

Carlos Alfonso Tomada (b. Buenos Aires, May 4, 1948) is an Argentine Peronist politician who serves as the Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security. Tomada was appointed by former President Nestor Kirchner; he retained the position under President Cristina Fernández.

Tomada's grandfather was a Socialist member of the Argentine Chamber of Deputies. He qualified as a lwayer at the University of Buenos Aires in 1973. He was active in the Peronist Youth, the youth wing of the Justicialist Party.

As a lawyer, lecturer and trade unionist he has been involved in issues of employment and labour rights. From 1987 to 1989 he was National Director of Labour Relations and in 2002 he became Secretary of Labour. In May 2003 he was appointed to the Cabinet in his current role as Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security.

At the elections of 2007, Tomada headed the Front for Victory list of candidates for National Deputy for the city of Buenos Aires. However, the newly elected President Cristina Fernández reappointed him to his cabinet role and Tomada did not take his seat in Congress.
