Levitt was born to a
Jewish family inDetroit, Michigan . Some of his ancestors were Russian. He received his Bachelor's degree in Urban studies and later a Master's degree in Architecture.Political activism
Robin Levitt was elected Village Councilman and Planning Commissioner in
Yellow Spring ,Ohio in 1976 and occupied this position until 1977. In 2000 he was elected to theSan Francisco Democratic County Central Committee and served there until 2002. He was also the co-chairman of the campaigns in 1997, 1998 and 1999 to replace the Central Freeway with Octavia Boulevard in San Francisco, CA.Levitt is currently an active member ofSan Francisco Bicycle Coalition .
