The Kings School Macclesfield

The Kings School Macclesfield

The Kings School Macclesfield was founded in 1502. The school used to be boys only but in the 1980s the girls division opend, but the girls site is located on Fence Ave. and the boys division is located at Cumberland St. In 1993 the school opened a junior school which on average has about 200 pupils alone in that division. The school also has an infant block.

Entrance

Because Kings is a private school all pupils that want to gain entrance to the school have to do an entrance exam.

Pupils entering Year 3 have to do the 7+ exam.Pupils entering Year 7 have to do the 11+ exam. These exams are not unique to the Kings School, pupils entering other private schools like Stockport Grammar etc have to do the same exams.

Year Groups

The infant block goes from reception to year 2 and then if the pupil wants to carry on to the juniors, he/she has to do the 7+ entrance exam. Then the pupil goes from year 3 up to year 6, then after the pupil has done his/hers SATS in year 6 he/she has the choice to carry on up to the boys/girls division. To get to year 7 the pupil has to do the 11+ exam. After that has been completed the pupil is free to carry on up from year 7 to year 11 without any more exams.

In-School Exams

Every year starting from year 7 pupils have to do EOYE [End of Year Exams] which contain questions from every topic done throughout the year in that particular subject [Art, drama, music and Design are not tested in the EOYE] There are end of unit [or topic] tests that contain questions on the most recent topic [Devision, The Human Body etc.] These test are revision for the EOYE.

Games/Sports

The school has a very wide range of sports. The school has a Hockey, Rugby and cricket teams. The school has highly qualified sports staff that train the teams. Each yeargroup has at least 1 games lesson per week. In these slots the pupil has to change into his/her games kit and then can take part in running exercises , hockey and football [these are not part of the actual teams, but pupils can be "promoted" up to the teams]
