Miss Liberty Da Vine

Liberty Da Vine is a character in the Guild trilogy, a series of books by Joshua Mowll. She lived in Texas until she was kidnapped by Chung-Fat. Her father is Theodore Da Vine, an oil baron and president of the All American Conglomerate and the only obstacle in the way of a major trade deal. Sheng-Fat captures her as a negotiating tool to remove the final obstacle. She owns a small seaplane called Lola which Pembleton Crozier steals to escape Wenzi Island at the end of the first book.

Background

When Liberty was eighteen she left her Swiss finishing school to join a flying circus as a wing-walker and parachutist. But she wasn't happy as just being a stunt performing passenger. She wanted to learn to fly. She soon mastered the art and became very popular on the acrobatic circuit but her real interest was the quest for speed and endurance.

Operation Red Jericho

Becca and Doug first learn about Miss Da Vine when Luc Chambois shows them a diamond necklace she had given him on Wenzi Island. Liberty had been involved in Chambois' escape from the island. They had meant to escape together. He fears that she is dead as Sheng-Fat threatened to drown her after her father had signed the international shipping treaty. He gives Becca the neecklace. They hear about her again when they overhear a conversation between a man nicknamed Linen Suit, (the same man that kidnapped Chambois) and Chung-Fat, Sheng-Fat's brother. Becca and Doug finally meet her when they arrive on Wenzi Island. She pleads to be released and claims that her father hates her and would not care for her so she was of no value to Sheng-Fat. She is in a lot of pain. when Sheng-Fat questions Doug she tries to protect him. They ignore her protests and Chung-Fat kicks her in the face. Then she introduces herself to the two MacKenzie children. She claims that she is named after the Statue of Liberty in New York but says that she doesn't hold a torch for anyone(ie.she doesn't take orders from anyone). She is pushed into the line of prisoners consisting of Xu and Xi, the Sujung Quantou twins, Becca and Doug. Doug tells Sheng-Fat that they are Liberty's cousins to buy them some time as Sheng-Fat threatens to kill them. Sheng-Fat decides to keep them alive and though Liberty's original use has run out, Sheng-Fat decides to keep her too. He feels he can get a good ransom for her from her father. She has a friendly chat with Doug about his lucky socks as they are taken away.They are locked in bamboo cages hanging over the sea They rescue Liberty when they are captured by Chung-Fat and brought to the island. She helps the Expedient to escape Wenzi Island while leaving her plane to be taken by Pembleton Crozier. She joins the Expedient's crew as they sail after Pembleton Crozier through the South China Sea.

Operation Typhoon Shore

While stranded on the Sulphur Archipelago after the typhoon she tries to convince the MacKenzie children not to trust the Guild. She grows a bond with Becca as they repair the Captain's dismantled old seaplane which they name the Fighting Dragon. They become entangled in an aerial battle with Pembleton Crozier and Lola. When Liberty gets shot, Becca has to take over and fly them to safety when their plane catches fire. When the battle with the Kalaxx is over she flies away as the crew watch on.

Operation Storm City

Liberty joins Becca and Doug as they continue their search for their parents in their hometown of Lucknow.
