Martha Masters is a renowned American classical guitarist. She won the 2000 Guitar Foundation of America international solo competition. [1] Masters is the Executive Vice-president of the GFA. [2]
According to Naxos "she received both the Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, where she studied with Manuel Barrueco, and completed the Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Southern California as a student of Scott Tennant." [3]
Martha is currently a professor and guitar instructor at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California, where she gives both private instruction and directs the LMU Guitar Ensemble.

Teaching
Masters recommends using a metronome:
- "I have found the heavy use of a metronome very helpful."[4]
- "What I would propose is that rubato be the last interpretive tool you add to a piece.[...]
get your score and a pencil [...] marking in where you think there should be rubato. [...]
Finally listen back to your recording with a metronome in hand. Passages where you have no rubato marked, you should remain fairly true to the metronome. [...]
If you realize that you have a problem with this[...] Use a metronome."[4]
