Abhar is a city in Zanjan Province, Iran, between Ghazvin and Zanjan; located in Abhar County, near the Abhar River. It is the second-largest city in the province after ZanjanFact|date=July 2008. It is a regional center for science because of its universities, which include Abhar Azad University, Payam Noor University, Sama and other science and cultural centers. It has an important role in Iran's transit because of having highways and railroads.

It is a big center of industrial manufacturers like Minoo, AWC, Medisk, Parsnakh and other well-known factories.
