This episode takes its title from Ariel's Song in "The Tempest" (Act I, Scene II). There are many references to Shakespeare throughout the series, and indeed, the title of the series itself is from this very same verse in the play.

"Full fathom five thy father lies;Of his bones are coral made; Those are pearls that were his eyes:Nothing of him that doth fadeBut doth suffer a sea-changeInto something rich and strange."
