The British School - Muscat (BSM) is a co-educational, non-profit, non-selective private day school in Muscat, Oman. It was established in 1971, under Royal Charter by his Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said al Said. In 2003 his Royal Highness the Prince of Wales on a visit to the school described it as one of the leading schools in the Middle East, if not the world (Times of Oman , Nov 9th, 2003). During the 2007/2008 academic year, 905 pupils were enrolled at the school with a staff to student ratio of approximately 1 to 20. The school has many facilities such as a primary and senior school library, sports hall, theatre, swimming pool, and five well equipped science laboratories.

In 2008 school princiapl Mr. Steve Howland was awarded an MBE, due to educational services and support in the Middle East, clearly outlaying his commitment to education as a whole.

BSM also has two headteachers:
* Ms. Lynda Haynes - Headteacher of primary school (Foundation stage - Year 6)
* Mr. Paul Keach - Headteacher of secondary school (Year 7 - Year 13). As of September 2008
The school follows the National Curriculum for England, offering GCSE, KS4(Y10-11) and A-Level, KS5(Y12-13) examinations, alongside Foundation, KS1(R-Y2), KS2(Y3-Y6) and KS3(Y7-Y9).
Subjects offered at GCSE and/or A-Level:
* English Language
* English Literature
* Mathematics (Further)
* Biology
* Chemistry
* Physics

The school also has the 'Rijnlands Lyceum Muscat' (The Dutch School) attached alongside it offering a Dutch curriculum in various subjects from KS3 (Y7-Y9) - KS4 (Y10-Y11)

The high academic standard of the school is exemplified by some of its GCSE and AS/A level achievements in the 2007/2008 academic year.
* 20% of all GCSE students with straight A*/A grades.
* 5 GCSE students ranked in the Worldwide Top Ten by the Edexcel exam board.
* 25% of all GCE AS Level students with three or more A grades.
* 25% of all GCE A Level students with three or more A grades with a 100% pass rate (A-E grades).
* 92% of A-level students are known to have been already accepted into higher education at various universities.
