Staten Island Historical Society was founded in 1856 with the duty of preserving, recording and disseminating knowledge of the history of people, places, and events of significance to Staten Island. Today its primary responsibility is the management of Historic Richmondtown, a re-creation of a colonial village on Staten Island.
The Society maintains a library and manuscript collection, as well as materials suitable for genealogy research. The photography collection includes over 50,000 cataloged items.
