Philip Rosenthal (born
1960 [ [http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0742814/ IMDb.com "Philip Rosenthal"] ] ) is a televisionwriter and producer who is best known as the creator, writer [ [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0115167/fullcredits IMDb.com "Everybody Loves Raymond - Full cast & crew"] ] and executive producer for the long-runningsitcom "Everybody Loves Raymond " (1996 –2005 ). The show was co-produced byRay Romano , and based in part on Romano's comedy material. Rosenthal's wife, actressMonica Horan , played the role of Amy MacDougall-Barone in "Raymond".It was Rosenthal and Romano who decided to retire the series over the objections or reservations of the other cast members.
Rosenthal graduated from
Hofstra University in 1981 and was actually anactor based out ofNew York City before shifting his focus to production work, becoming the writer and producer of such shows as "Coach" withCraig T. Nelson and the short-lived "Baby Talk ". However, Rosenthal occasionally appears in acting roles as evident by a role inJames L. Brooks ' "Spanglish" as a business colleague ofAdam Sandler 's character. Coincidentally (or perhaprs not), Rosenthal had a minor role in2007 's "The Simpsons Movie ", a big screen adaption of the long runningTV Series which was alson produced by James L. Brooks and his company,Gracie Films . Rosenthal contributed the line "Here we are kids... theGrand Canyon ", in fake TVAds Tom Hanks was filming for theUnited States Government in support of the "new" Grand Canyon. Producers liked the line and Rosenthal asked if he could perform the part.Phil is now the author of the book "You're Lucky, You're Funny: How Life Becomes a Sitcom" which was released on October 21, 2006. Phil recounts how his hilarious life led to one of the most successful shows in history.
Rosenthal has also ventured into the restaurant business in Los Angeles, co-owning Jar with Suzanne Tracht and his wife Monica, and an investment stake in Pizzeria Mozza with
Nancy Silverton and Mario Batali.References
