Triple Gold Club

Triple Gold Club

The Triple Gold Club is a term used for an exclusive group of ice hockey players who have won Olympic gold, World Championship gold, and the Stanley Cup. The three are widely considered the greatest regularly scheduled championships in Ice Hockey.

On May 8, 2007, the International Ice Hockey Federation announced it "will also formalize the Triple Gold Club by awarding commemorative medals" to the 19 players who (at the time) had won the three most prestigious championships in world hockey: Olympic gold, Stanley Cup, and World Championship gold. The ceremony was to take place in Canada during the 2008 World Championship but it was later changed to occur during the inaugural Victoria Cup in September 2008. Later in 2008, after the Stanley Cup finals, another three players qualified for membership, bringing the current total to 22 members.

Other international tournaments

Other international tournaments, like the World Cup of Hockey, the Canada Cup, the World Junior Hockey Championship, the Izvestija/Channel One Cup, the Karjala Cup or the Sweden Hockey Games are sometimes suggested for a possible "Quadruple Gold Club". However, the only tournaments that are officially recognized as counting towards the club are the Olympics, the Stanley Cup, and World Championships.
