Cumberland Secondary School

Cumberland Secondary School is a Comprenhensive school located in Newham, London, England. It is rightly proud to be contributing to the London 2012 as a training venue.

pecialist Sports College

Cumberland School was designated as a Sports College in 2003. As host of the Cumberland School Sport Partnership (SSP), students are give the opportunity to develop their sporting talents in addition to enhancing their academic achievement.

According to research, schools with a specialism in Sport outperform other specialist schools. Many of the initiatives are developed in partnership with the Youth Sport Trust.

The School was awarded with the FA Charter Standard in 2005.

Academics

In 2007, the School achieved its highest ever results for GCSE PE, with over 200 students achieving a pass in GCSE PE.

chool Day

The Cumberland school day starts at 8.40am with registration and ends at 3pm. There is a 15 minute register, 2 1 hour lessons then a 20 minute break. After break there are another 2 1 hour lessons then a 45 minute lunch. The last lesson is a usual hour.

Lessons Taught

The lessons taught are English, Languages, Maths, Science, R.E., Humanities, Geography, Graphics, Art, ICT and R materials.

History

The old school building was allegedly dull and gloomy, so therefore a new school was built with bright colourful rooms. The old school building led to rumours that the school was not very good. The new building opened in 2006 and was opened by Dame Kelly Holmes. The new building consisted of a sports hall, netball courts, 2 football fields, library, triple jump area, a reception, offices for deputy head teachers and classrooms.
