Sarlata (Greek: Σαρλάτα) is a village located in the southern portion of the
Leivathos . TheKefalonia Airport is situated 2 km west of Sarlata and is Argostoli's closest airport. Westwaer is theIonian Sea . The forested and bushy hills lie to the east. Poros is located at the end of the road linking to Argostoli. Sarlata is off the road linking Lassi andMetaxata via Minia. Sarlata also serves a road linking north to Argostoli. Forests surround the village along with a hill. Sarlata is famous for tourism including its hotels, villas and a nearby beach. The coast around Sarlata are mainly rocky and has small bays. The hills of Sarlata offers a nice panoramic view of the Ionian Sea, theVardiani Island, Gialos and the southwestern portion of the island including thePaliki peninsula, the mountains and Xi including its beaches. The
1953 Ionian earthquake ruined almost every house in Sarlata which lost its original architecture of stone-build house which replaced by concrete anti-seismic homes and almost colorful houses. After the earthquake in the 1950s and the 1960s, construction of the airport which its runway is approximately 2 km began and lasted for a few years and it opened serving flights toAthens , and other destinations throughout Greece.
