Lithuania n Women Chess Champion. In 1986 she was second afterIldiko Madl at the U20World Junior Chess Championship in Vilnius. She won the U20 World Championship in Baguio in 1987. For this achievement she received the titleWoman International Master (WIM). The Championship in 1987 was only the second international tournament she was competing at and the first outside the Soviet Union. In the year 2000 she won theU.S. Women's Chess Championship together with Elina Groberman. Since Baginskaite won against Groberman in Tiebraker later on with 2-0 she qualified for theWomen's World Chess Championship 2001 inMoscow where she got until the last 16, what was until then the best result for a female U.S. chess player since Women World Championships were founded in 1927. She got kicked out against Xu Yuhua in Tiebreaker.She was taking part in the Women's Chess Olympiads 1994 and 1996 for Lithuania at first board. At the Chess Olympiad 2000 she was playing first board for the U.S. team. In 2002 she played second board for the U.S. and in 2006 reserve board for the U.S. women team.
