William Hale (Wyoming politician)

William Hale was an American politician from the 19th century U.S. territory of Wyoming. He served as territorial governor from 1882 until his death in 1885.

Early years

Hale was born in New London, a community in Henry County, Iowa. Hale went through public education until he was 21 years of old. When he was 21, he was admitted to the bar association and began to work as a practicing attorney.

Political life

In 1868 Hale became a member of the Republican Party and was a presidential elector from Iowa in that year's election. Several years later, on July 18, 1882, U.S. President Chester A. Arthur appointed Hale governor of Wyoming Territory, Hale was sworn in on August 3 of that year. He served as governor until he died in Cheyenne, Wyoming on January 13, 1885.
