Cryptomail

Cryptomail

Cryptomail is a portmanteau of "cryptography" and "mail", referring to the use of cryptography in e-mail in order to make the contents of the mail obscured in order to prevent people other than the sender and the recipient to read the content of the mail.

The original usage of the word was initiated by CryptoMail.org in 1999 when the organization began providing a secure web-based e-mail service and e-mail system. Today, most e-mail clients such as Microsoft Office Outlook, Outlook Express and Kmail include facilities to send/receive encrypted e-mail.
