Badger Island is a low-lying
granite andlimestone island, with an area of 1242 ha, in south-easternAustralia . It is part ofTasmania ’s Badger Island Group, lying in easternBass Strait just west of Flinders andCape Barren Island s in theFurneaux Group . seabird ,wader andwaterbird species includeSooty Oystercatcher ,Pied Oystercatcher andCape Barren Goose , for which it is a major breeding site.White-bellied Sea-Eagle s have also nested on the island.Reptile s present include theMetallic Skink ,Spotted Skink ,White's Skink ,Eastern Blue-tongued Lizard ,Mountain Dragon ,Tiger Snake andWhite-lipped Snake . NativeMammal s found there are theRed-necked Wallaby andTasmanian Pademelon .Tasmanian Devil s were released on the island in 1998/9.
