Hampton Sides (born 1962) is an American historian and author.
He was born in
Memphis, Tennessee and graduated fromMemphis University School .His "
Ghost Soldiers " won the 2002 PEN USA award [ [http://penusa.org/go/awards/winners/2002-literary-awards-winners/ PEN USA Awards 2002 web site, accessed August 18, 2006] ] for nonfiction, and has published three other books on American history He has also served as an editor for "Outside" magazine. His magazine work has been twice nominated for National Magazine Awards for feature writing.He lives in Santa Fe with his wife Anne, a journalist. They have three children, McCall, Gram and Griffin.
