Loxton High School

Loxton High School is a co-educational secondary school (Years 8 to 12) with a current enrolment of 633 students in Loxton, South Australia.

History

The school was opened in 1959 as Loxton Area High School. In 1963 the word Area was dropped from the school name [www.loxtonhs.sa.edu.au] . In 1979 Loxton High commenced its record breaking run at the annual Riverland Interschool Athletics Carnival, and to date has not been beaten for the championship shield since. The school underwent a major re-development between 2001-2007 with the completion of the new administration building, science laboratories, technology workshops and gymnasium.

School Song

The school Song is the popular trade unionist hymn "These Things Shall Be" by J.A Symonds.

Uniform and Colours

Loxton High has a predominatly maroon uniform with yellow and blue trim. Sporting teams wear maroon and yellow with blue trim.The school does not currently have a mascot or sporting nickname.

Academia

Loxton students regularly achieve a greater TER score than that of the state average. In recent times, two students have been awarded the high profile Andy Thomas scholarship for engineering entrants at Adelaide University - Jordan Gray in 2005 and Kerry Halupka in 2008.

Sport

Loxton High are a major force in South Australian High School Athletics, currently boys champion (2006,2007) in the A1 division. It is also the only school to have featured in the A1 divisions for both boys and girls since 1980.The school is also well represented in the Australian Pedal Prix super series, ranked in the states top five schools and has won the APPSS all girls category since its inauguration in 2005.With the construction of a gymnasium in 2002, Loxton High commenced a volleyball program. After a meteoric rise, the school is now ranked 3rd in South Australia, and top 20 nationally, based on performances at the Australian Volleyball Schools Cup and SASSSA knockout cup performances. [www.volleyballaustralia.com.au] It has won one national gold medal. (U16 boys Div. 1 AVSC). Also at the Australian Volleyball Schools Cup Cambell Baker won the Australian wide, vertical leap contest with an incredible leap of 83cm. His winnings were a six month subscription to spike magazine (which he featured in), a molten beach volleyball and a pair of skins.

Within Loxton High, the students are broken up into four houses: Alpha (yellow), Beta (blue), Gamma (green) and Delta (red).
