Harold A. "Hal" Mooney (born June 1, 1932 in
Santa Rosa, California ) is an Americanecologists andemeritus professor fromStanford University . He earned hisPh.D. atDuke University in 1960 and was employed byUniversity of California-Los Angeles the same year. He joined the staff atStanford University in 1968. He is an expert onplant s and functioning ofecosystem s from theTropics to theArctic . United States National Research Council Committee on Ecosystem Management for Sustainable Marine Fisheries. He has been a coordinator of theUnited Nations Global Biodiversity Assessment (1995). He has been president of theEcological Society of America and he is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and a fellow of theAmerican Academy of Arts and Sciences . He is also elected foreign member of theRussian Academy of Sciences and honourary member of theBritish Ecological Society .He was the 1990 recipient of the
ECI Prize interrestrial ecology . He has received theMax Planck Research Award in biosciences (1992; together withErnst-Detlef Schulze ) and been given theEminent Ecologist Award for 1996 byEcological Society of America . In 2007, he received theRamon Margalef Prize in Ecology and Environmental Sciences .References
