History

WEIM signed on in 1941 as a general entertainment radio station with a variety of shows ranging from dramas to talk to sports to popular music to news and information. By the mid 1950's WEIM was primarily a popular music station playing the hits of that time. They also had sports and large amounts of local news. With the advent of rock and roll music, WEIM evolved into a Top 40 radio station by the late 1950's. The station continued as a Top 40 station throughout the 1960's and 1970's. Knight Quality Stations had bought WEIM sometime in the 1960's.

In the 1970's WEIM was well known as a Top 40 station with local personalities such as "Ray C", "Jack Raymond", "Tom St. John", "Floyd Wright", "Thom Whetston", among others. Many of these people went on to larger market stations. In the 1970s WEIM had it's music being tracked by national publications including Radio and Records, giving the station an impact much greater than it's size would seem to dictate.By the early 1980's WEIM evolved into more of a Hot Adult Contemporary format. They also began mixing in more oldies on weekends. Still, WEIM continued to play an extensive amount of current product. Although as a local radio station WEIM had aired local sports programming from the 1970s onward (Including Joe White and "Sportstalk") they added more sports programming in the 1980's as well.

In 1987, Knight Quality Stations sold WEIM to its longtime general manager, Frank Fillipone. The station continued on as a Hot AC station into the 1990's. More specialty shows such as evening sports talk, local community focus programs, more professional sports, and news specials were added on weekends but the station continued to be relatively music intensive.

By the mid 1990's WEIM evolved into more of a mainstream adult contemporary format and became more gold based by the late 1990's. From 1999 to about 2001, WEIM evolved into mostly a news and talk station with limited amounts of music, which now is mostly oldies.

In 2007, longtime morning host "Ray C" concluded a well over 30 year run with the station and a new AM1280 began.

Today WEIM is mostly a news and talk station with some sports programming. They also carry various syndicated music shows on weekends. The station runs Spanish programming at nights except for when professional sports run.
