Sierra Madre Dam

The Sierra Madre Dam is on L Santa Anita Creek in Los Angeles County, California, south of Angeles National Forest. It is used for fish and wildlife protection, flood control, and improved navigation purposes. Construction was completed in 1928. Its normal surface area is 1 acre. It is owned by Los Angeles County Department of Public Works.

The dam has a hole drilled into the bottom of it with a diameter of four feet, with a steel cage covering it for water release. Access to the dam is restricted by both a vehicular gate and chain link fence from the Sierra Madre Canyon entrance. Hikers can typically go behind the dam (illegally), where they are greeted by a rope climb up to a convert|20|ft|m|sing=on water fall. The west face of the canyon is gunited, prevented mudslides from filling in the canyon below.
