Soviet partisans and the Whites together with the 5th Japanese Expeditionary Division during the Russian Civil War in Transbaikal. In the summer of 1919 the Resistance movement in Trasbaikal threatened the regime of White Cossacks and the Japanese. It was decided to launch a massive offensive on partisan positions in Eastern Transbaikal.
8 Cossack regiments and up to 2,000 Japanese soldiers took part in the operation. The partisans didn't expect such offensive and as a result, they were encircled near villages Bogdat and Homyaki in a day. Bogdat was a home to the headquarters of the
Eastern Transbaikalian Front headed by Pavel Zhuravlev. The Whites started encircling manoeuvre and tightening encirclement. From September 29 to October 19 the partisans were attempting frantically to break through the enciclement. Finally, the two third of the encircled units managed to avoid capture leaving their bases and the Front was saved.
