History
The school was formed from Bridlington Grammar School (founded on the site in 1899 although originally founded in 1637) on "Bessingby Road" and Bridlington High School for Girls (founded in 1905) on "St Johns Street" in 1975, when the local LEA (one year after Humberside was formed with its base in Hull) became comprehensive. The High School site became Bridlington Lower School and the current site was the Upper School. The Lower School site is now derelict.

Bridlington School emerged from
special measures on1 March 2007 , after two years and two different head teachers.Academic performance
Bridlington School has a sixth form which was highly praised in the recent OFSTED inspection in June 2008. The school has made significant improvements at GCSE and is now the higher achieving school in the town. Value Added data places the school in the top 25% of schools nationally against prior attainment data. Sixth Form performance is now good with an A Level pass rate of around 98% in 2008.
