Bridlington School Sports College is situated on "Bessingby Road" (A165), next to the hospital, in the seaside holiday resort of Bridlington in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England.

Admissions

It is a secondary comprehensive that takes in pupils from Bridlington and the surrounding villages. The school has "Connexions" facilities available, for confidential careers advice or bullying/social issues. The headteacher is John Wilson.

History

The school was formed from Bridlington Grammar School (founded on the site in 1899 although originally founded in 1637) on "Bessingby Road" and Bridlington High School for Girls (founded in 1905) on "St Johns Street" in 1975, when the local LEA (one year after Humberside was formed with its base in Hull) became comprehensive. The High School site became Bridlington Lower School and the current site was the Upper School. The Lower School site is now derelict.

Special measures

Bridlington School emerged from special measures on 1 March 2007, after two years and two different head teachers.

Academic performance

Bridlington School has a sixth form which was highly praised in the recent OFSTED inspection in June 2008. The school has made significant improvements at GCSE and is now the higher achieving school in the town. Value Added data places the school in the top 25% of schools nationally against prior attainment data. Sixth Form performance is now good with an A Level pass rate of around 98% in 2008.
