History

The Upper School was on "Sewerby Road" and the Lower School on "St Alban Road" adjacent to the south. The Lower School has now been built on by Barratt Developments with around 30 houses.

Academic standards

The school was designated, in 2008, as "causing concern". The question of whether the school will be put into special measures will be determined in the forthcoming Ofsted report. The report has now been completed and the school has been placed into Special Measures, with its new partnership school been South Hunsley. Many changes are planned.

In the report, of their February 2004 inspection, Ofsted described the school as "This is a good school which is working well to improve pupils’ learning. ... Very good leadership by the headteacher, and good leadership by key staff promotes learning.". They assessed the school as 'Good', point three on a seven point scale, and the sixth form as 'Very Good', point 2. It gets about the same (low) GCSE results as Bridlington School, but much better A level results.
