Belgian Institute for Space Aeronomy

The Belgian Institute for Space Aeronomy (Dutch:Belgisch Instituut voor Ruimte-Aëronomie - BIRA, French: Institut d'Aéronomie Spatiale de Belgique - IASB) is a Belgian scientific institute, providing public service and performing research in the field of the space aeronomy. The institute provides Belgium with access to advanced knowledge resulting from the application of space investigation methods.

History

The institute was created in 1964 to perform research on the physics and chemistry of the atmosphere and outer space.

Activities

* The collection of information on the terrestrial space environment;
* Development of theries to explain the observations;
* Implement models which allow control and extension of the existing knowledge.
