Zygote In My Coffee (often referred to simply as "Zygote") is a popular underground independent print and online magazine dealing mostly in experimental and "street" poetry, [Duotrope Digest: http://www.duotrope.com/market_983.aspx] though it has also published content that includes short fiction, social commentary, political rants,one-act plays, erotica, and adult-oriented comic strips. [Georgetown's Catalog of Journals: http://library.georgetown.edu/newjour/z/msg02167.html] The magazine was started in San Jose, California in December 2003 by poet and cartoonist Brian Fugett. With Zygote's increasing popularity, Brian Fugett has enlisted co-editors. Karl Koweski was first to join the team in early 2007 and Aleathia Drehmer joined the staff in early 2008. Most recently, C. Allen Rearick has been named as 3rd co-editor.

Currently, Zygote In My Coffee is published out of Kettering, Ohio. [An Interview with Brian Fugett: http://www.laurahird.com/newreview/brianfugettinterview.html] In 2006, Zygote published its first print edition and has since published several more print editions with print issue #5 released in August 2008. The 100th online issue came out in 2008, for which a rare special print edition was released. Zygote has a new series of chapbooks called 69 Flipbooks which feature two poets in each book. [Information from "The Beat" http://the-beat.co.uk/zygote-in-my-coffee/] Zygote has published hundreds of underground authors and poets including Shane Allison, James Babbs, Luis C.
