- Titus Junius Brutus
.
A staunch monarchist, Titus - along with his brother Tiberius, his uncle
Lucius Tarquinius Superbus , his cousins Sextus, Spurius andArruns Tarquinius - attempted to restore the Tarquinii to the throne of Rome. The plot was discovered and he was executed at the age of 23 by order of his father. His testament in the Curia Hostilia has been given to us in part by Lavilius:
"The actions of my Father and Collatinus (Lucius Tarquinius Collatinus) are simply out of accord with the actions and wants of my Junian ancestors. My ancestor Luca Juines was King in Alba Fucentinus before Demaratus (Grandfather of
Lucius Tarquinius Priscus ) had even reached the shores of Latium. That his family his ruling is inconsequential. Rome will never be a public affair (Latin= Res Publica)."Alleged descendants
"This descent is not mentioned in Livy. It is probable that this descent is falsified either by later Roman historians, or by later writers."
At the time of his execution, Titus had one son of his own. The boy was adopted by his maternal grandfather, and became known as Gaius Iulius Iullus, the first Julian Consul. He was the ancestor of Robert Goulet
