St. Mary's Hospital (Passaic)
- St. Mary's Hospital (Passaic)
St. Mary's Hospital is a hospital located in Passaic, New Jersey on the Boulevard between Oak Street and Howe Avenue.
Originally, the hospital was located at 211 Pennington Avenue in the Passaic Park section of the city. Upon the failure of nearby PBI Regional, and amidst issues maintaining its original, outdate facility, St. Mary's obtained a grant fomr the state for the purchase of the PBI Regional Medical Center complex on Boulevard. Many in the community still refer to the hospital, incorrectly, as Passaic General, though it has no connection to the former owner.
The facility on Pennington Avenue is still maintained for psychiatric admissions and care, and the Psychiatric Emergency Screening Unit is located at the Pennington Avenue location. This unit is the primary facility used for psychiatric emergency care in Passaic County.
St. Mary's is owned by the Sisters of Charity, a Catholic nun's order in Convent Station, NJ. The order also owns St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in nearby Paterson, NJ. St. Mary's diverts all pediatric care to its sister facility.
