Naik a
Nadavara was born in Hanehalli,Kumta ,Uttar Kannada . His mother Devamma Venkanna Naik was from Hanehalli. His father Hosubu Murkundi Naik was a farmer and a Patel (Village administrator) of Gonehalli village. Gonehalli was a sleepy village with lush green fields, stately coconut trees, puddles and ponds around during heavy monsoon seasons. Venkanna completed his primary schooling from the neighboring villages Torke andBankikodla-Hanehalli . Venkanna was a head master ofKannada primary school in Torke, Kumta taluk.Career
In the year 1906, Venkanna completed B.Sc (Biology) from [http://www.elphinstonecollege.ac.in/ Elphistone College] of University of Bombay. In 1906, Naik went to
London to pursue higher education. In 1908 and 1910, he earned B.A. and M.A. fromSt John's College, Cambridge .After returning from London, Naik was appointed as a deputy director of Konkan agricultural science department and then as a special assistant registrar of
Bombay revenue department. In 1918, he went toLondon to becomeBarrister ofLincoln’s Inn . With an internship opportunity, Naik visited government offices in London,Scotland ,Ireland andDenmark and returned to India in 1921. He was appointed as a Deputy commissioner of Dharwar district and then in the year 1925, he was promoted to Commissioner of Bijapur district, Karnataka. V. H. Naik instigated several new plans and projects to help economically and socially backward sects of Bijapur district. In Bijpur district, a large population belonged to theScheduled Castes and to theScheduled Tribes .Venkanna died at the age of 50 in Bijapur, Karnataka. In remembrance, after his death, people of Bijpur district built his statue in Bijapur town. SAPA Gaonkar [
