Spikkestad is a population center in the
Røyken municipality inNorway . It is located in the northern part of theHurum Peninsula , closer to theDrammen Fjord than theOslo Fjord .Spikkestad railway station was opened in 1885 to link
Asker toDrammen . The village was named after the farm "Spikkestad", as the station was built on its lands. In the early 1970s, a tunnel was built which made the trip between these places shorter, and most of the train track was closed. Drammen andDrøbak .Drammen is the closest large city, only 11 km away from Spikkestad.During the
industrialisation of the town at the end of the 19th century, factories and schools, as well as an influx of new inhabitants made the village into more than just a train station. It's current population is between 2000 and 3000.Spikkestad and the area surrounding it has a great history - dating back to the vikings. Once a year, you can do an organised walk called "
oldtidsveien " (trans: oldtimesroad), which takes you along sites such as aviking burial site . It runs fromGullaug on the Drammen Fjord toSlemmestad on the Oslo Fjord.External links
